Olive Harvest in Italy | Teramo, Abruzzo

A Day Making Olive Oil in Abruzzo Experience BellaVita

Play the Video

I got to see from the start to finish the olive oil-making process. I was taken to an olive grove where I met busy local workers occupied with the harvest, and I even got to try some harvesting myself! From there to a locally owned processing factory where we sampled pure, fresh olive oil right from the presses!
Marino is a friendly, stellar guide (and cook) and his English is excellent. In addition, he is extremely knowledgeable about local food and culture. I would definitely recommend travelers to venture off and explore the Abruzzo region and getting in on his tours.

What We Will Do

In the morning we will spend time at the olive grove with the local farmers, who will show you the different techniques of gathering olive fruits; how to identify different types of olives and their characteristics. You will also learn how to pick olives.

After some time helping the farmers at the olive grove, we will stop under the olive grove for a traditional 'sdijuno', the name for Abruzzese's picnic. You will try some of the best products, delicatessens and wine from Abruzzo.

After our brunch under the olive grove, we will head to the olive mill. Here you will be able to learn everything about the modern extraction process, called ‘continuous’. This isn’t just a fully automated process, still, huge skills are needed by the mill master to recognize the different characteristics of the olives for then setting the machine for the perfect procedure.

You will see with your eyes and taste, the freshly pressed green gold in the Italian way, with a good slice of bread under the fresh oil flow.

What We Will Provide

Picnic Lunch. You will taste a range of local:

salami and
other typical products of Abruzzo.
