The ancient village is almost entirely built on the Majella (the mountain) white stone. To my experience, it can be compared to Matera in the Basilicata Region.
If you’re lucky to enter any of the houses you will see that they are carved in the stone.
If you’re in Pretoro, don’t miss to visit the 84 years young Mastro Tonino the last “Fusaro” wood artisan of the area if not the entire Abruzzo.
