Famiglia Febo Winery Spoltore – Abruzzo’s Genuine Winery
In this blog post series discovering the most authentic wines of Abruzzo, today we’ve the pleasure to introduce you to Davide from the Famiglia Febo winery in Spoltore, Abruzzo.
History
Davide and Laura Febo, the two young of the family are the heart and spirit of the family winery, which has been in operation for over sixty years. Grandpa Febo, like his forefathers before him, was a farmer and in the mid 60s he decided to plant his first vineyard of Montepulciano.
With the first bottling in 2018, Famiglia Febo became a reality. Laura is a translator who has worked in the publishing industry, whereas Davide has a legal background. They both made the deliberate decision to return home and revive the family tradition. It’s a wonderful and brave story of grandchildren following the footstep of their ancestors and going back to their roots.
The philosophy
The entire family works hard to maintain the greatest aspects of the past. Tradition and innovation collide in the meticulous care paid to each and every stage of the production process, from vineyard and winery assistance through vinification. From 2018 the family has been converting into organic farming and the main job is carried in the vineyards, trying to have healthy grapes with the least intervention. The winery’s mission is to create wines that are a true reflection of the region and the love for viticulture, and they are doing it very well!
Famiglia Febo Wine List
The farm estate is divided into 2 areas: on the hills of Spoltore and Chieti and only autochthonous grapes are farmed: Montepucliano and Trebbiano D’Abruzzo. All the fermentations are spontaneous and temperature isn’t controlled.
- Parella Vino Bianco, entirely made by Trebbiano d’Abruzzo grapes which follow spontaneous fermentation in steel tanks. Must is separeted from skins, the process continues until the fermentation in completed
- Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, made with 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes with spontaneous fermentations
- Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, made with 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo with spontaneous fermentation in steel tanks and maceration on the skins for about 7 days
